Randy is a principal in our Private Capital Practice. Based in Tokyo, he has more than eight years of consulting experience serving investors and corporates across Japan and wider Asia.
Randy specializes in strategy, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and global transformations, particularly within the consumer goods and retail sector. He combines a global background with long working experience in Japan to help clients navigate both inbound and outbound challenges.
He has supported clients across the investment lifecycle — from helping a global food company identify unique acquisition targets in Japan, to guiding a Japanese conglomerate in shaping its outbound investment strategy and conducting due diligence, to assisting a European beauty brand with post-acquisition integration. He also advises clients on optimizing their Japan operations, including a global beverage company on market landscape analysis and a fast-dining chain in managing its multi-thousand-store network.
We are at a key moment to reshape the paradigm of Japan. With heightened global interest in Japan, as well as rising global investment by Japanese players, it’s most rewarding to help clients translate these strategies and investments into tangible and sustainable new value
Randy holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA from Duke University. He is fluent in Japanese and holds permanent residency in Japan. Prior to his consulting career, Randy served as a retail fintech executive in Japan and as a Captain in the US Army, including a combat deployment to Afghanistan.
Outside of work, Randy enjoys CrossFit and exploring Japan’s natural landscapes. He has recently begun serious study of the Japanese tea ceremony and serves as a board member for Scouting America’s Far East Council.
